Background

At the point of sale the Bleep system captures the customer ticket, permit, passes and excursion details, this information is transmitted from each TIC to Metro head office and back to each TIC to ensure that customer details are available at each location.

Bleep Computing installed 8 Windows workstations connected to a server running Client Server Retail Control at head office which gives access to the Prepaid tickets, reimbursements and finance departments. Bleep developed an order module to facilitate sales to third party ticket resellers, which includes an automatic invoice production and dispatch notification for the remote print warehouse. A link to the Dream financial system for travel centre and third party ticket sales was also implemented.

A further development contract has been awarded to Bleep to print travel tickets at the point of sales to improve transaction times and security.

Solution

Metro sells a range of prepaid tickets and concessionary passes at its Travel
Centres. Its tilling system had been installed in 1993, was not PC based, and did not automatically interface transactions into Metro's accountancy package.

· Faster and more efficient service to the public
· Improved user friendliness with integrated add-ons
· Streamlined system to post income to accounts
· Improved cash security
· Electronic banking
· Accommodation of Smart Card technology

A PC based tilling system would also allow the operator to access other
applications, such as Journey Planner and Passes and Permits Databases, from
their workstation.
