ClientTourist Information CentreBackgroundNewcastle's Tourist Information Centre moved from a site in the City's Central Library to a much more visible and accessible location in the heart of the regenerated Grainger Town in late 1999. Newcastle with its partner Gateshead, on the south side of the river Tyne is building on the exciting developments of the last few years. The Information Centre offers a wide range of services and products including advanced accommodation booking, local event tickets, gifts and souvenirs. SolutionBleep Computing installed Windows based, touch screen EPOS terminals with barcode scanning at each site. The Bleep system allows for the capture of customer details as well as providing venue tickets and the facility for hotel reservations at the point-of-sale. Integrated Chip & Pin provides for reduced transaction time. ResultThe Information Centre with its sister Gateway Centre in the Central Railway Station now has 35% more enquiries and a subsequent 150% increase in revenue and rapidly increasing sales. Fiona Wilson, Newcastle City Council's Tourism and Information Manager says, ‘We needed a system that was networked between our two offices and offered instant stock information. One that would work with us to offer new services such as accepting Euros and help us deal effectively with the potential for selling on the City's website. After a frustrating two years working around an unsuitable alternative system, Bleep has been everything it promised.' |
